History
The history of Hi-Way 50 Drive-In Theater
The Hi-Way 50 Drive-In sits on 13 acres outside the Lewisburg city limits. An amusement company bought the land in 1947, put up the screen in late 1949 and opened the lot on May 19, 1950, according to the venue's own history page. Cinema Treasures gives 1946, but a commenter there notes it is missing from the 1948 and 1949 Theatre Catalogs and listed by 1952.
It has one screen and room for about 350 cars. Music videos shot on the grounds include Joe Diffie in 1994, Blake Shelton in 2011 and Kid Rock in 2018. The drive-in closed after the 2021 season, and in April 2022 the operator said it would not show movies that year and would take only private events. It reopened for the 2023 season. A September 2026 review mentions new ownership.

Hi-Way 50 Drive-In rents radios at the counter: radios rent at the concession stand ($5 per a September 2026 review). You can bring your own food to Hi-Way 50 Drive-In once you have bought a permit for $10 a car. The permit is worth it if you were going to spend more than that at the counter anyway. Without one, outside food is not allowed in.
Are dogs allowed at Hi-Way 50 Drive-In?
Dogs are welcome at Hi-Way 50 Drive-In as long as the leash stays on. Keep it short near other cars, bring water, and clean up afterwards. A nervous dog is worth leaving at home, because sound carries across a lot.
