The history of Melody Cruise-In Theater
Melody Cruise-In Auto Theatre opened July 3, 1947 with a single 500-car screen. Chakeres Theatres took over operation by 1955. A second screen was added May 16, 1980, bringing capacity to about 1,000 cars across both screens.
It was Springfield's last surviving drive-in, closing in 2016. The property was used as a church afterward and was demolished in November 2022 for a housing development.
