History

The history of Starlight Drive-In Theater

Starlight opened June 27, 1948 on Route 127, between Celina and Greenville, built by the Feltz brothers of Cassella, Ohio. Its single 50-by-46-foot screen tower originally ran individual car speakers before converting to AM/FM sound.

Joanne Myers and her son Dan bought the theater in 1987; Dan ran it until his death in May 2023, which closed the lot. It reopened under new ownership on May 23, 2025 and is still family-run, under Starlight Drive-In Theater LLC.

FAQ

Questions about Starlight Drive-In Theater, answered

How many screens does Starlight Drive-In have?

Starlight Drive-In has one screen. Everybody on the lot watches the same film, so there is nothing to choose when you arrive. Park where you like, tune your radio and wait for the light to go.

Can I rent a radio at Starlight Drive-In?

Starlight Drive-In rents radios at the counter: $5 for the night with a $20 deposit, $15 back when you return it. First come, first served. It is worth one if you plan to sit outside the car, or if running your stereo for four hours would flatten your battery. They go quickly on a busy night, so ask when you arrive rather than at the interval.

What time does the movie start at Starlight Drive-In?

What Starlight Drive-In says: The theater says the show starts at dusk. In October it gets dark around 7:26 pm. Check with the theater on the day you go.

When is Starlight Drive-In open?

For the 2026 season, Starlight Drive-In is open from May to September, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. It closes for the winter and reopens in the spring, so a trip outside those months is not possible.

How much does Starlight Drive-In cost?

Admission to Starlight Drive-In is $25 a carload, $10 per adult, $5 per child 4-12. That is one price for the whole vehicle, so five of you pay what two would. Children 3 and under get in free. The booth takes cash only, so stop at a machine on the way.
