Before you go
Know before you go
- The box office opens 7:00 PM
- RVs/campers/buses welcome, park in back row; hatchbacks may be turned around if the open hatch doesn't block the view behind, otherwise lower it to roofline
- You get a free pass if rain stops the movie
- arrive and leave anytime; box office stays open until ~15 min after the second feature starts
- Multiple reviews report other patrons leaving headlights on during the movie with no staff response when called; sit further back or near the office if this is a concern
- One July 2026 review reports the playgrounds and restrooms poorly maintained (pest control, cleanliness) despite well-kept parking areas
- Tickets are per-person, not per-car, and switching screens after arrival isn't allowed, so a group planning to split between screens pays for each separately
History
The history of Big Sky Drive-In Theater
Big Sky Drive-In opened October 19, 2005, built by Sam and Carolyn Kirkland. It started with two screens and expanded to three in 2007, and sits on the same lot as the former Texan Drive-In, which had closed in the mid-1980s. The owners also run the Sky-Vue Drive-In in Lamesa, about 90 miles north.
FAQ
Questions about Big Sky Drive-In Theater, answered
How many screens does Big Sky Drive-In have?
Big Sky Drive-In has three screens. Each one shows a different film on the same night, so you choose which screen you want as you pull in and park facing it. Ask at the gate what is playing on each.
What FM frequency does Big Sky Drive-In use?
Big Sky Drive-In broadcasts its soundtrack on Screen 1: 95.3 FM, Screen 2: 97.3 FM, Screen 3: 94.7 FM. The audio comes through your own car stereo rather than a speaker on a post. If your car cannot run its radio with the engine off, bring a portable one.
Can I rent a radio at Big Sky Drive-In?
Big Sky Drive-In rents radios at the counter: no stand-alone speakers, car radio/walkman/boom box required. It is worth one if you plan to sit outside the car, or if running your stereo for four hours would flatten your battery. They go quickly on a busy night, so ask when you arrive rather than at the interval.
What time does the movie start at Big Sky Drive-In?
Big Sky Drive-In does not post a set start time that we could find. Most drive-ins start the movie around dusk, which in October is about 7:41 pm and at midsummer closer to 9:24 pm. Plan to be parked by sunset and check with the theater on the day you go.
How much does Big Sky Drive-In cost?
Admission to Big Sky Drive-In is $10 per adult, $8 per child 6-11. Two adults and two children come to $36. Children 5 and under get in free.
Can I bring my own food to Big Sky Drive-In?
You can bring your own food and drink to Big Sky Drive-In at no extra charge. Pack a cooler and the tickets are the only thing you pay for. The counter is still there if you would rather buy dinner when you arrive.
Are dogs allowed at Big Sky Drive-In?
Dogs are welcome at Big Sky Drive-In as long as the leash stays on. Keep it short near other cars, bring water, and clean up afterwards. A nervous dog is worth leaving at home, because sound carries across a lot.
