Before you go
Know before you go
- The box office opens 7:15 pm
- On a busy summer night, get there about 45 minutes early
- Vans, trucks and SUVs use the designated aisles; a raised hatchback must be tied down level with the roof for rear viewing (twine provided at the gate).
- Rain or shine, the movie plays
- A food permit may be required to bring in outside food or drinks; it's referenced across multiple reviewers (Google's topic tally logs "food permit" in 8 reviews and "bring your own food" in 7), so ask at the box office before packing a cooler.
- Radios can be rented for guests who don't want to run their car battery for sound; a Sept 2026 reviewer said the rental radios "get really loud."
History
The history of Midway Drive-In Theater
Midway opened July 21, 1950, designed by architect Jack K. Vogel, and was twinned for the 1983 season. Vandals destroyed two projectors and 414,000 feet of film in June 1983; the lot reopened two weeks later.
A December 2000 storm brought down the original screen tower, replaced for the 2001 season by a new tower. The same operator, funflick.com, also runs Mayfield Road Drive-In in Chardon.
